How do you prevent contrast extravasation?

The key is to anticipate what can go wrong and make sure it doesn’t. it’s the classic risk prevention strategy.
  • Do not assume someone else tested the line
  • Do not assume the IV line the patient came to CT with works
  • If you can’t palpate the IV site don’t use it (i.e. wrapped up with too many bandages etc.)
  • Always assume the worst-you won’t be disappointed
